UO-FETF

The Functional Electroceramics Thin Film (FETF) Group of the Microelectronics and Materials Physics laboratories is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Oulu, Finland. The department was established in 1965. Since then Microelectronics and Materials Physics laboratories have contributed with significant scientific impact in the fields of micro and nanosystem technologies. The education and research fields are materials, devices and their manufacturing technologies with special emphasis on electronics, photonics and telecommunication applications. The research is carried out in close co-operation with top research groups in Europe, Asia and the USA and global and domestic industrial partners. Research projects are funded by the Academy of Finland, the EU, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes), the Nordic Innovation Center (NICe), and the Scientific Advisory Board for Defence (MATINE).

The Microelectronics and Materials Physics laboratories have long experience in research work in the field of gas sensors from 1980’-90’ especially considering then SnO2 based thick-film sensors and theoretical modelling of the sensor response. In the last ten years, research has concentrated on the utilization of nanostructured metal oxide materials in novel sensor technologies, for example, in ink-jet printed gas sensors. Prof. Jyrki Lappalainen is also a working group leader in the COST action EuNetAir (TD1105).

In SENSIndoor, UO-FETF’s main role is that of a research partner in the field of PLD deposition processes of nanostructured metal-oxide gas-sensing layers, material optimization, and structural and electrical characterization.

Leader of work package 2, PLD deposition process for nanostructured gas-sensitive layers.
